West Virginia has a series of state parks and forests in which is possible to enjoy one of the best camping experience in the whole USA, from tent sites to full-hook up services, which includes water connections, sewer connections both for greywater and blackwater disposal, and electrical service.
Some of the best campgrounds are Audra State park (67 tent/trailer sites), a wooded riverside campground, the Blackwater Falls state Park (65 tent/trailer sites), named for the Blackwater River falls, the Kanawha State Forest (45 tent/trailer sites), with lots of recreational activities for families and friends (it is just seven miles from Charleston, WV) and Bluestone WMA (the biggest camping campground with 330 tent/trailer sites) which offer several recreational activies inside its 17,632 acres.
Depending from the season, each campoground can be opened of not, so before start your journey please double check campground openings with WV State Parks. Usually, camping season starts in April and ends in Octoed,
The camping season usually runs from mid-April to mid- to late- October with the following exceptions, with some exceptions, such as Canaan Valley, Pipestem Resort, Stonewall Resort and Beech Fork Old Orchard Area, which are open year-round.
To avoid being disappointed is always safe to take a reservation. It can be done by calling toll free 1-800-CALL-WVA and requesting the campground of your choice. While making a reservation please take into consideration that a minimum of 2 nights (and up to 14) is required.
